 The Glorious History of DIET 

   Tumkur district is one of the famous districts of Karnataka due to its own history and heritage. It is popularly known as “ SHIKSHANA KASHI”, and had a teacher training  Institute which was started in the year 1904 in the name of “Normal School”.

     The main objective was to train the in-service teachers in the district. Later it was renamed  “Vernacular Training” College and then “ Teachers training institution”. When it was organized into a training institution it create a teacher's community in two ways.  First priority was to train the untrained teachers at two levels. One is for  TCL(Teacher Certificate Lower)  of 2 years duration for those who were non-SSLC teachers  Secondly   TCH ( teacher certificate higher) for those who had SSLC qualification.

 

Later regular students were also admitted along with the in-service teachers. After the completion of backlog of in-service teachers' training, finally, the institute had begun to admit only regular students.  Apart from the certificate course, it imparts in-service teacher training as an extension program. Further  it had run certificate course during vacation for those in-service teachers who were untrained in the name of CCVC(contact cum vocational course). Contact programs were held regularly for CCVC teachers. The institute was upgraded to present DIET on 19-01-1993.DIET have the following wings

1) Pre service teacher Education(PSTE)

2) District Resource Unit(DRU)

3) Education Technology(ET)

4) Curriculum material development(CMD)

5)Inservice Training Field Interaction(IFIC)

6) Planning and Managament(P &T)

7)Work Experience(WE)

 

About the Institution

The District Education and Training Institute, (DIET) works with primary and secondary schools in the district, with the aim of enhancing the quality of school education, promoting science programs, and fostering scholarly leadership in school education. And engaged in scholarly work that is useful for students and teachers. The main mission of this organization is to equip all children with the skills, values, ​​and values ​​necessary to become good human beings, socially responsible citizens and enable them to achieve excellence.

 District Administrative Administration Information

Tumkur District is divided into Southern and Northern Educational Districts for the convenience of educational administration. Tumkur South District has 6 talukas under Deputy Director Administration and Development and Tumkur Uttar (Madhugiri) district has 4 talukas under Deputy Director Administration and Development. Diet is covered. Tumkur Southern District headquarters is located in Tumkur, Tumkur South Educational District covers Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Kunigal, Thuruwakere, Tipatur, and Tumkur talukas, and Maduragiri is covered by the Koratagere, Shira, Madhugiri, and Pavagada talukas.

 Diet's mission and main activities are:

  1. Improving the quality of education in primary and secondary schools in the district.
  2. Maintenance of Teacher Education Training (pre-service and service education) in the district including both primary and secondary education.
  3. Encouraging science education in the district.
  4. Designing and implementing teacher training programs such as textual content, pedagogy, the adoption of innovative practices such as theater in education, and the preparation of low-cost teaching materials.
  5. Formulate satellite-based training programs.
  6. To promote the talent of students through scholarships.
  7. Identify the teaching needs of high school teachers and enhance teachers' teaching skills.
  8. Enhancing students' learning progress in government schools.
  9. To Improve the educational quality of teacher training institutions.
  10. Technology use in education.
